Hello everyone! It’s been a long time since Phia or I have posted any exciting updates, we had a tremendously busy holiday and New Year. We spend a good amount of the Holiday’s entertaining many out of town guests (which we were very thankful for) as well as forging onward with our home buying aspirations. And although we’ve been busy we’ve been also having a great time along the way.
Caution: Bryan waxing philosophical ahead!
At the beginning of any new year, people are filled with excitement and anticipation for the changes to come; new cities? new friendships? new diets!? new cars? … we all have things we look forward to. The feeling is often all too fleeting as the luster of the recent holiday and promises of resolutions begin to fade away. Old habits resurface and we settle back into normalcy. This year however we’ve been granted a short reprieve from the quick return to the “everyday” as we we’re witness to something truly historic in this year’s Presidential Inauguration. For me, this presidency is not about black or white, but truly about the humanity of the day. When the zeitgeist of a society changes, the catalyst is very often a singular event that marks the occasion. What makes it historic is that when you awake the following morning and take inventory of things, you see that the collective consciousness of a people is different then it was the day before. Whether you support this presidency or not, it’s hard not to at least recognize that fact. It was impossible to look out at that sea of over a million people unifying under the banner of hope and not allow yourself to sojourn in its harmony if even for only a day, … or perhaps even just a moment. And the most beautiful thing was that had very little to do with with Obama, and a lot to do with the fact that each of us still care to hope at all. If only this renewed sense of family, friendship, community and hope would stick with us just a little longer before we settle back into “everyday”.
So onto the real reason for this post; A good friend of mine named Kevin (whom many of you know) was lucky enough to be at the inauguration. Ever since college Kevin has lived and worked in D.C. working in the field of politics in varying degrees. He started his career in Diane Fienstien’s office but currently works for Representative Spratt out of South Carolina. Because Kevin works on “The Hill” he is not only very familiar with the building, but also thoroughly security screened. This made him uniquely qualified to be a liaison for many of the high profile guests. In return for his services, Kevin was allowed to sit in the bleachers just behind the President’s podium. His view was awe inspiring as you’ll see in his pictures. Kevin also was able to attend the “Southern States Ball” which the President and Vice President attended, you’ll see pictures of all in the link below! Be sure to check them out!!
Note: in one of the first pictures there is an arrow pointing out where Kevin was seated so you can get perspective of where exactly he was.

Amazing photos, thanks for sharing.
Trully amazing. I’ve been there on the 4th of July but never seen so many people.
I need to visit DC once again, I really like that city.
Wow! What a day that must have been for him.
