So we are back from the big kick off weekend in Glamis and we had an amazing time, even though it was hotter then hell out there. I almost died on heat stroke on the first day just trying to unpack in the dead heat of the day, however once we were settled in and in the shade, things starting looking up. the kids got to go around camp in their costumes and trick or treat at dusk which was super fun. Pretty much everyone got involved, even Buck with his storm trooper kid sized costume.

This weekend was the big break in weekend for Bill and his Tacoma. He did some mild small sized dune-ing and only got stuck once. When he got into his rhythm he was able to hack the sand highways to the drags and Oldsmobile hill, so that was pretty fun to see him out there.

Although we didn’t get in nearly as much riding in as we’d have liked Phia and I had a great time. We did go on one little group ride and did a whole bunch of driving in our Tacoma (Air conditioning baby!) and that is always a ton of fun. I took a ride on Sunday in Ricks bad-to-the-bone Extreme Motorsports Sand Rail which is sporting a twin turbo’d Vette engine. That thing is a technological wonder, the things its capable of are truly amazing. Rick admits that the cars abilities are beyond his own but he’s taking it slow as to not get himself (or his passengers) into any trouble. With a car that powerful safety is a must. As it turns out Rick’s quite a good driver and he took us on a killer ride.

Pretty much everything was great, it’s was hot yes, but that made for warm clear nights with amazing sunsets and lots of stars. That’s always a hi light for me. Everyone got in a good amount of duneing and riding and everyone got back home safe and sound which is always the most important part of any good desert trip. This is especially true when you consider that we saw 2 life flight helicopters land on the 78 in the same day. It’s all too common a occurrence out in Glamis on big weekends these days. Luckily we’ve got a great group of people who really look out for one another which always makes for a great time.

We’re really glad the season is here and looking forward to getting away again, maybe Occotillo next? We’ll see, maybe some of you will join us next time?

Bryan and Phia

P.S. We love hearing from everyone so please feel free to post up comments on any of our posts, we read them all and usually will add a reply of our own! Thanks!
