Phia and MelissaHello everyone! So this past weekend was a busy one! In my continuing effort to raise $3,300 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma society, we did a little fund raising at the Pride parade in Hillcrest. Bryan and I and some friends from TNT (Melissa, Meghan and a couple others) loaded up tons of party beads (mostly on Bryan!) and walked around asking for a donations in exchange for some beads. Because of the fun and vibrant atmosphere of the parade, most people were excited at the idea of getting some beads! You’d be amazed at the generosity of most people. Even those that declined to donate we’re friendly and wished us well.

I have to admit I’ve never been to the pride parade and I had a really fun time! They had a lot of floats and music, food and everyone in the crowd was just wonderful. Sure, my feet hurt and my back was sore by the end of the day from lugging all those beads but it was super fun! Many people were more then generous and a few were able to share with us their stories of friends and family that have been effected by Leukemia and Lymphoma. The good news though is that amidst those stories were many tales of survival and hope which means that fund raising like this is really starting to make an impact! Every person that I spoke with, whether they had lost a loved one or were a tale of survival, were really thankful for our efforts and had nothing but kind words for all of us. It certainly makes all the hard work worth while when you feel like you are making a difference in peoples lives.

After all was said and done I would say that the day was quite successful and I’m happy to announce that I have just about reached the half way marker for my fund raising goal. I still have a long way to go and I’m sure this isn’t the last of my bead bonanzas but again the effort is well worth the results. I have many of you to thank for getting me this far and to you all who have been my support THANK YOU! I look forward to inching closer to my goal and to meeting more amazing people along the way.
